Publishing Terms

Publishing Terms

Where Grangor accepts a literary work, story, manuscript, chaptered work, series instalment, or other title submitted by a user for publication on the platform, the submitting author and rights holder grants to Grangor an exclusive, limited licence for the term and purposes set out in this section.

Copyright Ownership

The author retains copyright in the work at all times. Nothing in these Terms transfers or assigns copyright ownership in the work to Grangor.

Licence Grant

Subject to acceptance of the title by Grangor, the author grants Grangor, for a period of 3 years commencing on the date the title is first made available by Grangor to the public, an exclusive licence to reproduce, store, host, publish, display, communicate to the public, distribute, transmit, sell, stream, serialise, promote, market, and otherwise exploit the accepted title solely in the following formats and channels:

Digital on platform reading

Ebook or equivalent digital text editions

Audiobook, spoken word audio edition, and audio streaming or download editions

Promotional excerpts, samples, metadata, cover images, descriptions, and related marketing materials used for the purpose of promoting the accepted title and Grangor’s publication of it

Scope of Licence

This exclusive licence applies only to the accepted title and only to the rights reasonably necessary for Grangor to publish and exploit that title in the formats described above on Grangor and through Grangor’s official websites, apps, accounts, services, channels, and distribution partners acting on Grangor’s behalf.

Rights Excluded

For the avoidance of doubt, the rights granted to Grangor under this section do not include and Grangor does not acquire any ownership or licence in relation to film rights, television rights, dramatic rights, stage rights, radio drama rights, print only rights, translation rights, merchandising rights, game rights, sequel rights, remake rights, adaptation rights, or other rights not expressly set out in this section.

Exclusivity

Because the licence granted under this section is exclusive, the author must not, during the licence term and without Grangor’s prior written consent, publish, authorise, license, distribute, exploit, or permit the exploitation of the same accepted title in competing digital reading, ebook, audiobook, or audio formats through any other person, platform, publisher, retailer, distributor, subscription service, or channel.

Author Warranties and Representations

The author warrants and represents that, at the time of submission and throughout the licence term:

The author is the sole owner of the copyright in the work, or otherwise has full authority to grant the rights set out in this section

The work, and Grangor’s authorised exploitation of it within the scope of these Terms, will not knowingly infringe the copyright, trade mark, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, moral rights, or other legal rights of any third party

Any co authors, narrators, performers, editors, illustrators, translators, or other contributors whose consent is legally required for publication or audio exploitation have given all permissions necessary for Grangor to exercise the rights granted under these Terms

The work is not subject to any prior agreement, licence, encumbrance, exclusivity obligation, or restriction that would prevent or limit the rights granted to Grangor under this section

All information supplied by the author to Grangor in connection with the title is accurate in all material respects

Grangor’s Publishing Rights

The author grants Grangor the right, within the scope of the licensed rights, to edit, proof, format, style, package, serialise, brand, excerpt, produce, record, narrate, perform, synthesise, distribute, market, and present the accepted title in the form and manner Grangor reasonably considers appropriate for publication on the platform, provided always that such acts remain within the rights expressly licensed under this section and do not transfer copyright ownership.

Author Credit

Grangor shall use reasonable efforts to identify and credit the author as the author of the accepted title wherever reasonably practicable on the platform and in associated promotional materials.

No Publishing Fee

Grangor does not charge authors a publication fee for accepted titles.

Expiry and Reversion of Rights

Unless terminated earlier in accordance with these Terms, the exclusive licence granted under this section automatically expires at the end of the 3 year term.

Upon expiry, all rights licensed under this section automatically revert to the author without further charge, save that Grangor may retain archival internal records and non public compliance copies where reasonably required for legal, accounting, security, fraud prevention, or internal record keeping purposes.

Early Reversion

If Grangor accepts a title for publication and does not make the title available to the public within a reasonable period after acceptance, or if Grangor permanently ceases commercial exploitation of the title during the licence term and does not resume such exploitation within a reasonable period after written notice from the author, the author may request early reversion of the licensed rights.

Suspension or Removal

Grangor may suspend, remove, or stop distributing a title where Grangor reasonably believes that the title breaches these Terms, infringes third party rights, creates legal risk, creates platform integrity issues, or exposes Grangor to reputational or regulatory harm. Any such suspension or removal shall not of itself transfer copyright ownership to Grangor.

Renewal

Any renewal or extension of the licence beyond the original 3 year term must be agreed in writing by both Grangor and the author before the end of the current term.

Series and Related Works

Where an accepted title forms part of a series, sequel chain, universe, or collection, the licence granted under this section applies only to the specific title accepted by Grangor unless these Terms expressly state otherwise in relation to additional instalments or titles.
